Winter Storm Watch Set For Later Wednesday

Last chance for a snow storm this season?

The National Weather Service has declared a winter storm watch for the region from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday afternoon, but it looks like it will turn out to be more of a wintry mix than a winter wonderland.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the NWS forecast for Lynnfield calls for snow to begin Wednesday after 3 p.m., with only about an inch of snow in the forecast heading into Wednesday night.

The snow is expected to continue overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning before turning into rain - as much as two to four more inches of snow may fall. There may also be a light dusting of snow on Thursday night before temperatures return to the low 40s on Friday, reports the NWS.

A look at the town DPW website finds that only 13 inches of snow have fallen in Lynnfield all winter. And even that number feels a bit high somehow, even with more than a third of that total (5 inches) having fallen during the October 30th storm. The next largest snowfall of the season came on Jan. 21, when 3.5 inches were recorded. In contrast, 89 inches fell last winter.
