[Malden, MA] Today, the Jay Higgins for State Representative Campaign announced he has received the endorsement of the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), the largest teacher’s union in the Commonwealth. The MTA represents over 110,000 teachers, paraprofessionals, and educational support staff. The endorsement reflects the MTA’s confidence in Higgins and his commitment to working families, public schools, and equitable school funding.
“Jay Higgins has a deep understanding of the challenges working families face even in a wealthy state like ours. Jay shares the MTA’s perspective that what happens outside of the classroom makes an impact on what happens inside the classroom. Jay is committed to making sure our public schools, colleges and universities have the resources needed to allow all students to thrive because he knows that funding public education is a prudent investment in our communities overall. The MTA enthusiastically supports Jay Higgins for state representative.”

Accepting the endorsement, Higgins outlined his commitment to working families and public education:
“I’m honored to have the support of the MTA and the educators, paraprofessionals, and school staff they represent,” said Higgins. “As your next State Representative, I pledge to always fight for fully funded public schools, including special education programs, so every student can get the education they deserve regardless of zip code or ability. I will also fight to expand funding of our public university system. Now more than ever, we need to invest in our colleges and universities as the federal government abdicates its role in funding higher education. And I will always stand with teachers and all other working people, as they fight for fair wages and safe working conditions.”
The MTA endorsement adds to the momentum for the Higgins campaign who has already been endorsed by Mayor Gary Christenson and VoteVets. This latest endorsement continues to grow the coalition of community leaders, labor unions, and policy advocates who are backing Jay Higgins for State Representative.
The Massachusetts Teachers Association has been the leading voice for public education in the Commonwealth for over 155 years. Its endorsement reflects a rigorous review of candidates’ positions on education funding, labor rights, and the wellbeing of students and families.
Jay Higgins is an Air Force veteran and longtime public servant, most recently working for Congresswoman Katherine Clark as her Outreach Manager and Senior Caseworker for the past 10 years. Jay Higgins is running for State Representative on a platform of making Massachusetts more affordable for middle-class and working-class residents.
