MALDEN, MA — The police department is inviting residents to its annual National Night Out celebration Tuesday evening, with free food, live entertainment and opportunities to meet local officers and community organizations.
The free event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at MacDonald Stadium on 32 Pearl St. The family-friendly festivity is open to everyone and is hosted by the department in partnership with several local organizations.
This year's celebration will feature free food, live music, family activities, police and emergency vehicles, public safety demonstrations, community organizations, and giveaways. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet Malden police officers and learn more about local resources available throughout the city.
National Night Out is a nationwide campaign held annually on the first Tuesday in August to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Organized by the National Association of Town Watch, the event encourages neighborhood engagement, crime prevention and positive interactions between residents and public safety officials through community gatherings held across the country.
Police Chief Marc Gatcomb encouraged residents of all ages to attend, saying the evening is an opportunity to celebrate the community while continuing to build stronger relationships and safer neighborhoods.
"It's finally here!" the department said in a social media announcement Tuesday. "We can't wait to see everyone tonight as we celebrate our community and build stronger relationships together."
Community partners for this year's event include the City of Malden, Malden Fire Department, Eliot Family Resource Center, and Cataldo Ambulance Service. The department is promoting this year's edition of the event under the theme "One Community, One City, One Malden."
