Malden Nonprofit Hosts Annual Accessible Beach Day In East Boston

The event was supported by a grant from Save the Harbor/Save the Bay's Better Beaches Program.

MALDEN, MA — More than 175 community members attended Triangle, Inc.'s eighth annual Beach: Accessibility Day at Constitution Beach in East Boston on Saturday, where people of all abilities enjoyed the beach using adaptive equipment.

The event featured floating wheelchairs, mobility mats, and adaptive kayaks to help people with disabilities access the sand and water. Triangle is a Malden-based nonprofit that has served people with disabilities and their families since 1971.

"In Massachusetts, we love our beach days," Triangle CEO Rachel Kaprielian said. "It's important to recognize the challenges that individuals in wheelchairs and mobility issues face. Today's event highlights the resources available to make our public beaches accessible and welcoming for everyone."

The event was supported by a grant from Save the Harbor/Save the Bay's Better Beaches Program in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. DCR's Universal Access Program also supported the event, while Piers Park Sailing Center in East Boston provided adaptive kayaks for participants.

"Beach: Accessibility Day continues to set the gold standard for inclusive and accessible programming on our region's beaches," Save the Harbor/Save the Bay Executive Director Chris Mancini said. "It's the event that has spawned other accessibility from Nahant to Nantasket. We are so proud to keep partnering with and learning from Triangle, Inc. when it comes to breaking barriers to access Boston Harbor for anyone."

Triangle is based in Malden and describes its services as innovative and comprehensive, with a focus on helping participants build skills for work and more independent daily living.
