MALDEN, MA — One person was taken to the hospital after a fire at a home early Monday morning, according to the Malden Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to 453 Medford St. just after 1 a.m. and battled a fire originating from the basement. One occupant was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The family was asleep when the fire started, and working smoke detectors alerted them in time to escape, the department told Patch.
"Let this morning's incident serve as a critical reminder: working smoke detectors save lives," the department said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No firefighter injuries have been reported.
