Are you ready to rock? Have you always wanted to lay down a groove in a rock ‘n roll band? Here’s your chance to step up, stretch out and jam on with one of MockingBird Music’s Weeklong Summer Rock Camps. MockingBird Rock Camps are designed for musicians at every ability level to enhance private instruction and individual practice and are guaranteed to be a whole lot of fun. Scheduled throughout the summer, participants can choose from 5 camp types: Kids Rock, Teen Rock, Rock ‘n Roll Bootcamp for Absolute Beginners, and a new intense MEGAROCK Camp. Most ensembles meet for several hours per day for five days of the week. Each ensemble is led by an experienced MockingBird instructor and includes: repertoire development, organized rehearsals, one-to-one coaching, a live performance on the MockingBird stage for friends and family, a professionally produced recording session and a commemorative CD complete with photos and artwork.
Additionally, MockingBird is offering two weeklong Songwriting Camps led by professional singer-songwriter-pianist and Berklee College grad Sara Azriel. Her approach focuses on song structure, melody, harmony, and arranging as well as creative approaches to lyric writing. Through this study the student will start to develop the critical skills necessary to recognize and discuss quality elements in musical and lyrical form. The student will also experience the oftentimes collaborative nature of songwriting by working in small groups. To demonstrate a dawning mastery of these skills and concepts, the student will begin to develop a portfolio of their own original songs that typify various current practices of contemporary songwriters.
A summer long, two-day-a-week Theater Camp is also scheduled and will culminate in a full production of “Annie Jr.” on the MockingBird Stage complete with costumes, lights, and music. Beginner actors and advanced acting students are welcome. “Annie Jr.” is a marvelous adaptation of the original masterpiece, making the production manageable for students of all ages while still incorporating the most essential acting and singing techniques that every young actor should learn. Director and Instructor Holly Chin has years of musical theater experience and is the director of MockingBird Glee and the MockingBird Singers as well as a private vocal instructor at MockingBird Music. Holly always strives to bring the best out of every student, coaxing them to push themselves beyond their perceived limitations. The results are always amazing.
