Charges Against Man Accused of Rape at Xfinity Center Concert Dropped

The charges against a Boston man accused of raping at the Keith Urban show at the Xfinity Center have been dropped.

The charges against a Boston man accused of raping a 17-year-old girl during a Keith Urban concert at the Xfinity Center in July have been dropped.

Sean Murphy, 18, was accused of raping a girl in the lawn section of the venue while onlookers took recorded the incident on their cell phones according to the Sun Chronicle.

Assistant District Attorney Mary-Elizabeth Mack told Attleboro District Court Judge Daniel O’Shea said that prosecutors were dropping the case after discussions with the accused and the girl agreed with the decision.

The resolution came after statements were obtained from 15 to 20 individuals who said they witnessed the incident.

“What we thought all along has been borne out. It was a consensual act,” Dedham defense lawyer Neil Crowley told the Sun Chronicle. “No crime was committed.”

The two, who did not know each other before the show, had been drinking before the concert. During the show, the two started kissing near a concession stand before Murphy led her to the lawn area.

Murphy was pulled off the girl by onlookers after she was told people were recording the incident. The girl told police that night that she did not consent to sex.

During the show, 46 people need medical attention, 22 people were transported to local hospitals, and over 50 people were taken into custody by police.
