Content Rules Rocks HarborOne
Local business owners fill the house to hear about social media from experts.
If you were near HarborOne on Copeland Drive in Mansfield Thursday Feb. 17, you probably asked yourself, “what the heck was going on?” Valets at HarborOne greeted each car like they were attending the Oscars. Valets…at a bank?
Social Media devotees from surrounding areas lined up for a complimentary book signing and conversation with Ann Handley, chief content officer at MarketingProfs and C.C. Chapman, founder of Digital Dads as they discussed their new book Content Rules: How to create Killer Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, Ebooks, Webinars (and more) that Engage Customers and Ignite Your Business.
According to HarborOne, “over 100 local business owners, writers and potential bloggers,” attended the event which was presented in conjunction with the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center.

During four 30 minute presentations Handley and Chapman shared their “rules” for being successful content marketers.
“Everyone is a publisher,” said Handley. “Produce great stuff and your customers will come to you. Produce really great stuff, and your customers will share and disseminate your message for you.”

They warned it does take work. “It’s like having a baby,” said Chapman. “You don’t just have a baby and leave it. You have to nurture it. That takes time.”
I finished the book this weekend and highly recommend it to beginners, as well as, experienced online marketers. It provides the “how-to’s” on a content marketing. Besides tools, checklists and side notes, the book includes ten case studies with “ideas you can steal” at the end of each.
Content Rules is a useful supplement to any of the local social media workshops provided by the MSBDC, Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce and other organizations both online and offline. For more about the book and the authors check out their website at www.contentrulesbook.com .
