Enrollment Continues to Decline at Mansfield Schools

The school system saw a decrease of 184 students.

New data shows that enrollment remains on the decline at the Mansfield Public School.

According to numbers shared at the Oct. 7 Mansfield School Committee, there are 4,143 students in the school district as of Oct. 1, 2014. This is a decrease from last year’s 4,320 students.

The decline of 184 students represents a 4.3 percent drop from enrollment numbers for this time last year.

Most of the drop in students took place in the elementary schools. Grades K through five saw a decrease of 145 students.

Enrollment has been dropping for years down as the school district finds itself below the high of 4,824 students during the 2009-10 school year.

Next year, the decline is expected to continue with a projected loss of 147 more students. Projections from the 2012-13 school year has the student population going down to 3,780 students.

The following are the enrollment numbers for the Mansfield Public Schools as of Oct.1, 2014:

  • Mansfield High School - 1,336
  • Qualters Middle School - 1,089
  • Jordan-Jackson Elementary School - 899
  • Robbins Elementary School - 727
  • Roland Green School - 92
