Fatal Mansfield Crash: Police Release ID Of Victim

The name of the man killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Mansfield early Saturday morning has been released.​

MANSFIELD, MA — The name of the man killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Mansfield early Saturday morning has been released.

Omar Barrientos, 24, of Providence, Rhode Island, died after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

At about 5:25 a.m., state police responded to a crash on the northbound side of the highway, at the 10 mile-marker, near the rest area in Mansfield. At the scene, troopers found a 2015 Ford F250 that struck the rear of a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer, which was disabled in the breakdown lane with a flat tire. Upon crashing into the rear of the trailer, the F250 immediately caught fire, state police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 56-year-old man from Providence Rhode Island, suffered minor injuries and refused immediate medical treatment.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the F250 was driving at a high rate of speed in the breakdown lane prior to the crash. Barrientos, the driver and only occupant of the F250 pickup, was determined to be dead at the crash scene.

The crash remains under police investigation.
