Hero's Corner At Mansfield High School To Pay Tribute To Armed Services
The new monument for the military will be placed at Alumni Field, pending approval from the school committee.

MANSFIELD, MA — The Mansfield Gridiron Club is hoping to add a tribute to the armed services at Mansfield High School.
Last week, the school committee approved the project going forward, pending the vetting process performed by buildings and grounds and the finance director’s department.
Club board members Rich Palanza and Mark Schafter told the committee that they have raised enough funds to cover the cost of the monument, which would include seven 30-foot flags near Paul’s Place on the back turn of the track.

Planza and Schafter told the committed that they wanted what will be called Hero’s Corner to be in a high traffic area that the students can see, calling the spot an ideal location.
Five of the flags will be for the branches of the military, one will be for the POW/MIA flag, and one will be the American flag.

The Gridiron Club is hoping to have Hero’s Corner ready in time for the start of the 2017 football season.
The school committee was supportive of the idea and will likely give final approval after the completion of the vetting process.
