ICE Asks Mansfield Police to Hold Man With Possessing Fraudulent ID

Selvin Ovalle-Chavez, 26, who has an address in Lynn, was arrested Monday.

MANSFIELD, MA — A Guatemala native was arrested Monday and asked to be held by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency following a traffic stop in Mansfield.

Selvin Ovalle-Chavez, 26, who has an address in Lynn, was charged with the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop/yield, failure to slow and the forgery of documents and producing a false name or Social Security number to police, according to the Sun Chronicle. He was arraigned in Attleboro District Court Tuesday.

Police pulled over Ovalle-Chavez after allegedly observing him run a red light at the intersection of Route 140 and Chauncy Street. Ovalle-Chavez, who speaks little English, used friends in the car to translate before an interpreter arrived. He was taken into custody after he was unable to produce identification to police and after he was in custody, police allegedly found three ID documents, all with different names, including a social security card with an ID number that's not in use.

After police learned that Ovalle-Chavez was removed from his home country and assigned an FBI number, ICE was contacted. The agency asked police to hold him on their behalf.

He is scheduled to return to court April 20.
