Lauren Scher Named New School Committee Member

The vote came during a joint meeting between the Board of Selectmen and School Committee.

Mansfield, MA — A member of the Qualters Middle School Council has been tabbed to be the newest member of the Mansfield School Committee.

Lauren Scher was voted to the board during a joint meeting of the Board of Selectmen and School Committee. She received five out of nine possible votes. Jamie Vitonis received three votes and Aaron Roth received one. Also interviewed were former committee member Wayne Smith and Brian Eagle.

Scher, a self-employed education researcher, has been a Mansfield resident since 2002. An active member of the community, she sits on the Qualters Middle School Council and has been a member of the Jordan-Jackson and Robinson School Councils. She has also been a troop leader for the Girl Scouts.

"I've been living in the town for 12 years and been on various councils so it's something that I wanted to do," Scher said shortly after the vote. "The time was right to give it a try and I'm looking forward to working with this group."

Scher will fill the term left vacant by Michael Trowbridge's election to the Board of Selectmen. The seat is up for reelection next year.
