Mansfield, MA — A rare power outage has occurred in Mansfield.

Wednesday afternoon, lightning struck in the area of West Street and Donovan Lane, cutting off electricity for some residents in town. The Mansfield Electric and Light Department is on the scene and is working to restore power, police said.

The affected area includes Copeland Drive, Chauncy Street, West Street, Gilbert Street and other surrounding streets, according to the town.

This afternoon, Mansfield was briefly under a severe thunderstorm warning. The warning was implemented just after 3:30 p.m. and ended at 4 p.m.

The estimated restoration time is 7 p.m.
