A gas leak in a building on Maple Street caused the evacuation of the building Tuesday morning.

Due to the leak, Maple Street was shut down between Cate Springs Well and Oakland Street.

By 11:45 a.m., the street was reopened with the arrival of Columbia Gas, who turned off the gas and made repairs. Emergency personnel shortly left the scene afterwards according to Mansfield police.

Deputy Fire Chief James Puleo told the Sun Chronicle that the leak may have been caused by a meter that was damaged during the recent snowstorms and only a trace of gas entered the building.
