MANSFIELD, MA — A Somerset man was arrested Monday after officers said he was drunk when he crashed into another car on Interstate 495 and injured the other driver. Nicholas Moniz, 31, was charged with his second driving under the influence charge, driving to endanger, driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in an accident with serious bodily injury, speeding, and marked lane violations. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Attleboro District Court Tuesday.

Around 11 p.m., Moniz crashed his Jeep Wrangler into a Nissan Versa being driven by a 78-year-old woman on the southbound side of the highway, State Police told the Sun Chronicle. The woman suffered from back and neck pain and was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

According to court records, Moniz told officers he had only had two beers before driving home after working since 4:30 a.m. Moniz's last drunken driving arrest was in 2014 out of West Roxbury District Court. The case was continued without finding, and Mooniz has since completed his probation, Moniz's attorney told the Sun Chronicle.
