Mansfield Adds Two Officers, Promotes One to Sergeant

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Wednesday's selectmen meeting.

MANSFIELD, MA — One officer was promoted to sergeant and two more joined the department during a special ceremony at Wednesday’s selectmen meeting.

At the top of the meeting, Robert Pierce was promoted to sergeant and Mike Fitzgerald and Pat Pennie were sworn in as officers.

“It isn’t exactly an easy time to be a police officer, however, we have the utmost confidence that these men are up to the task,” Police Chief Ronald Sellon said.

Pierce, a 2001 Mansfield High School and 2006 Bridgewater State University graduate, jointed the department in 2007. He was previously promoted to detective and served as a prosecutor for the Mansfield Police Department, Sellon said.

“I’ve known Sgt. Pierce for a long time. Rob and his wife were counselors at the Y and even took care of my children, so I have the utmost faith in Sgt. Pierce’s ability and the utmost faith,” Selectmen Chairman Jess Aptowitz said.

Pennie graduated from Mansfield High School in 2009 and 2013. He was hired last year. Fitzgerald graduated from Xaverian in 2012 and Suffolk University in 2012.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the board wished the men the best of luck.
