Mansfield Baseball Comes Out with Another Win

Hornets Beat Foxboro, 4-3, with a walk off bunt.

The Mansfield High baseball team came back in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3 after a lead-off bunt from Andrew Bukuras. After Foxborough was trailing 1-0 until the fifth inning, they managed to tie it up when a line drive brought home Brett Casey.

At the top of the sixth, Foxborough began to rally, when Evan Serpis bunted to first base. Nick Tredo came home on the play, and was awarded the run because of plate blocking. Foxborough's Steve Fitzmaurice took another walk across the plate before the end of the inning to make the score 3-1.

Mansfield fired back in the bottom of the sixth, however, when Mike Farrell, Chris Johnson and Bobby Brunelle loaded the bases. Steve Nagle then hit a sacrifice fly ball to bring in Farrell. David Eberhart then hit a double to bring in Brunelle and tie the game at 3-3.

Mansfield changed pitchers from Adam Black to Craig Mallet at the top of the seventh, who helped retire the Foxborough batters three in a row. Mansfield then came to bat, and with Nick Carafa on third base, Andrew Bukuras made a lead-off bunt to bring Carafa home.

"I think we did enought to win," said Mansfield head coach Tim Graham. "They made a lot of errors and we put the ball in play when we needed to. I thought Adam Blake pitched really well for six innings, and then Craig Mallet came in for the 1-2-3 [in the seventh]."
