Mansfield Basketball Teams Fall Short in D1 South Finals
The season is over for the boys and girls basketball teams.

MANSFIELD, MA — Two Mansfield High School teams had a chance to win sectional titles Friday night, but both fell short in their bids.
The girls team fell to Braintree 72-43 in the MIAA Division 1 South championship at Taunton High School in a game that was largely dominated by the Wamps.
Half: Braintree girls lead Mansfield 40-12. Hornets shooting 5-23, 1-10 from 3. Braintree 16-34, 7-15 in 3s. Meg Hill's 6 leads Mansfield.

Despite a 17-point third quarter from the Hornets, the gap was too big to close.

In the boys final, Needham walked away with a 65-56 win in a competitive showdown. Needham took a five-point lead into the first quarter, capping off the opening frame with a half-court shot at the buzzer.

Tied 42-42 in the third quarter, Needham pulled away, outscoring Mansfield 23-14 for the rest of the game.

The Mansfield girls finish the season with a record of 20-3 while the boys end the season with a record of 23-3.
