MANSFIELD, MA — A parking lot at the train station that wants to double their capacity will be in front of the Planning Board Wednesday night.

At 7:45 p.m., the board will hold a special permit public hearing for Mansfield Station LLC, located at 75 Chauncy St. The lot's owners are hoping to add 194 spaces.

If the Planning Board grants the permit, another meeting with the Board of Selectmen to increase the number of cars allowed by their license will be necessary. Town Manager Bill Ross said in November that it has been the board's past practice to not expand non-residential parking in the area.

At the time, Ross told the board he was informed by Bill Clemmey, who also owns a lot near the train station, that he will seek to expand his lot if 75 Chauncy St. is allowed to increase capacity.

Extra parking in the area will likely be a controversial issue due to the traffic and congestion that is common around the train station during the evening commute.

The Planning Board is scheduled to meeting in Room 2 A/B at Town Hall.
