Mansfield Budget Deficit Down to $92,500

The gap is smaller than its initial $2 million deficit.

MANSFIELD, MA — Town officials are close to eliminating the budget gap for fiscal year 2018, but there's still work to do.

The selectmen learned Wednesday night that the initial $2 million deficit is down to $92,500. The gap was closed by cutting most requests for more staff. New positions in accounting and an English as-a-second-language teacher for the schools were added, according to the Sun Chronicle.

Selectman and budget subcommittee member Steve Schoonveld said the town faces challenges with increases in health care.
