Mansfield Business Seized by the State

A local business has been seized by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

Recently, Aunt Aleda’s Bakery and Country Kitchen on North Main Street was seized by the state.

According to a sign on the front door, the seizure is due to the nonpayment of taxes.

A spokesperson for the state’s Department of Revenue said the seizure was completed on Jan. 6. The business owes about $96,500 in state and local meals taxes. The oldest of the nonpayments dates back to 2011.

The restaurant had been open for just under four years before the state seized the business.

Currently, a sign on the side of the building facing North Main Street is advertising that the building is for lease or sale.
