Mansfield to Celebrate Completion of Town Mural

A dedication ceremony at the North Common has been scheduled for September.

After years of work and painting, the Mansfield Mural across from the North Common on Chauncy Street is nearing completion.

Mansfield Mural Committee member Nancy Wall told the selectmen this week that artist and Mansfield native Ian Gaudreau is almost done with the project, but keeps finding ways to improve the mural according to Wall and Town Manager Bill Ross.

“He’s really working on fine details and part of the problem is he keeps seeing things and thinks ‘oh I can do this and make this better,’” Ross said. “He is an artist and he is a gifted artist, there’s no question about that.”

Originally set for completion last year, poor weather and Gaudreau’s improvements kept the project from finishing on time.

“There is the art on the wall and there is a story, but then he has another layer of stories and relationships and clever little things he puts in when you look at it. It’s a really neat aspect of the mural that you don’t see a lot,” Wall said.

The town will hold a celebration for the completion of the mural and the renovation of the North Common on Sept. 19 during a rededication ceremony from noon to 4 p.m.

According to Wall, there will be live music, tours of the mural, and local vendors to provide food.
