Mansfield Dumpster Diver Caught Red-Handed

A masked critter was the culprit in this case.

MANSFIELD, MA — A suspect in a dumpster break-in near Dunkin' Donuts on South Main Street was found at the scene, except this one stood out from others.

Around midday Friday, police found a raccoon enjoying the contents of the dumpster, with police saying he was "sampling the leftovers at Café on the Common."

"With every new bag of trash deposited in the dumpster, our foraging friend was faced with a dilemma: use the growing pile to exit, or eat his egress. As you can see, he chose the latter," the Mansfield Police Department wrote in a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post.

Officer Tony Lattanzio and Animal Control Officer Simonds were able to place a board in the dumpster and coaxed the animal from giant trash container and back into the wilderness, police said.

The Mansfield Police Department reminds residents to keep their dumpsters secure and call if they have a question about wild animals.
