Mansfield Gridiron Club Rallying Support for $5,000 Grant

The Mansfield Gridiron Club is currently competing with other schools and organizations for this year's Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports Grant Program.The grant program is based on community support through a registration and quiz process.

For the Gridiron Club to win, they need to make at least sixth place. As of May 9, they are 14th in the running in the school classification bracket. In the school bracket, they have a chance to obtain $5,000. The grant program itself also has a lot more organizations in the running, since this year it has spread to a more national level.The grant program ends on Memorial Day.

"Parents, coaches and community members take a 10 question quiz," said Michelle Busharis, a member of the Gridiron Club. "And then when you're finished taking the quiz, you credit the organization you want to credit and [The Gridiron Club] gets one credit."

Last year, the Mansfield Boosters won a $5,000 grant, all because of local efforts. They cannot win twice in a row, so this year they are supporting the Gridiron Club. If they Gridiron Club wins this year, they will donate the $5,000 grant towards upgrading Mansfield High School facilities.

"We would use the money towards the [] weight room, which would benefit all the Mansfield students athletes," Busharis said.

The quiz and registration are free, and only takes an estimated two minutes to complete. Here are the steps to participate:

1.   Go to www.responsiblesports.com

2.   Go to the link My Fan Page (lower left side of the page)

3.   Returning Parents can sign in, but New Parents will need to Register by selecting the Register button

4.   Select the Community Grants link on the left side of the page.

5.   Select the Parents button next to "Start by Taking a Short 10 Question Quiz" in the lower middle of the page

6.   After taking the quiz you will be presented with a screen to enter your organization; enter the following:  Org:  Gridiron Club of Mansfield     City: Mansfield     MA

7.   Make sure you hit CREDIT for the Gridiron Club of Mansfield.

8.   To see the Current Status; Select Community Grants again; and then select View the Leaderboard Live! (lower middle of page)
