Mansfield Indoor Track Finishes Season with a Bang
Mansfield Boys' Track Team ties with Newton North for Championship.

The Mansfield High boys' and girls' indoor track teams made an impact on Sunday at the All State Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The boys shared the championship with Newton North and the girls placed 10th overall.
Mansfield head coach Julie Collins said the team performed with vigor during the meeting, and exceeded her expectations.
“The team score kept popping up all night,” she said. “The fact that we kept scoring all these unexpected points was amazing.”

Josh Lampron scored two more points than expected in the 1,000 meter dash. Griffin Robertson and Brian Ferreira also placed better than expected during the meet. Lampron raced to an individual state title in the 1000 meter run and Robertson's time in the 600 meter run is a new school record.
“It’s one of those things where we prepare all season long for the end of the season big championship meets,” she said. “Everything we do is geared towards that.”

Collins said that during the season was the most important and rigorous training for both teams, but right before the championship, her teams needed to rest up and preserve stamina and endurance.
“Leading up [to the championship], there’s really not much you can do to really help their bases at that point,” Collins said. “There’s a lot of rest and a lot of visualization. Since we did have the 10-day break between the divisionals and the state we did do one good workout, which the kids just nailed. It was a big confidence builder.”
Collins said Jennifer Esposito continued to battle with Brockton’s Vanessa Clearveux during the meet, as the two have been neck and neck all season. She made her best time yet during the meet for the 55 meter hurdles, coming in with a time of 8.03, which is currently the 16th best time recorded in the country.
“It was just a very exciting end to the state meet,” she said. “It was a four-year run by our senior class. These seniors have earned the state title for the third year in a row. Third time for our boys in green.”
Esposito and Brian Ferreira will be competing at next Friday's New England Championship being held at the Reggie Lewis Center beginning at 4:30 pm.
