Mansfield Man Charged with Assaulting Male with Pool Ball in Sock

Police say they were alerted to the incident after hearing a child's cry.

MANSFIELD, MA — Police were able to responded to a domestic disturbance thanks to the cries of children.

Early Monday morning, Andrew Neale, 29, of Mansfield, was arrested on High Street and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to maim, according to the Mansfield Police Log.

At 1:26 a.m., an officer on patrol near the town's department yard heard a child scream for help. The officer then saw three children run out of the home, with four total before a second officer arrived, according to The Sun Chronicle.

Following an investigation, police learned that Neale allegedly fought a man over a woman, with the woman getting injured while trying to break up the fight. Neale allegedly had a pool ball wrapped in a sock, along with a knife. The other man used a chair to defend himself, police said.

Neale was arraigned in Attleboro District Court and ordered held on $5,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on Sept. 7.
