Mansfield Police Identify Body Found in Pond

Police searched for the missing 23-year-old from Mansfield Saturday and Sunday before discovering the body in a local pond.

MANSFIELD - Police have released the name of a 23-year-old male from Mansfield who was pulled out of Mills Pond Sunday.

Matthew Cronin was found dead in about 10 feet of water at 7:30 a.m. Sunday according to the Mansfield Police Department.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy,” the department wrote on Facebook.

At about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, a local family told police that they had not heard from Cronin. A search through Sunday morning led police to Mill Pond off of East Street, with evidence on scene suggesting that the victim fell through the ice.

The death is under investigation by the Mansfield Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police, but is not considered to be suspicious.
