Mansfield's Hopkins Moves Up in Milwaukee Brewers' Organization

Gregory Hopkins of Mansfield is starting the season with the Brevard County Manatees, who open up the season tonight.

Mansfield's Gregory Hopkins is moving up in the minor league ranks for the Milwaukee Brewers, playing for the Brevard County Manatees in the Florida State League at the start of the season. Brevard County is the Brewers' advanced Class A team.

Hopkins is in his fourth year in the organization after being drafted in the 24th round in the 2010 draft out of St. John's University.

The right-handed hitting second baseman played with the Helena Brewers in rookie league baseball his first year and then spent the last two season with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Class A.

Hopkins was a Midwest League all-star last year, batting .269 with nine homers and 21 doubles.

Brevard County will be opening up the season tonight at the Dayton Cubs in a 7:05 p.m. game.

The 6-1, 200-pound Hopkins played at Bishop Feehan High School before a standout collegiate career at St. John's.
