Mansfield School Enrollment Could Drop By 500 By 2022
Mansfield's public school population, which was at one point pushing 5,000, could be closer to 3,000 within a few years.
MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield's public school population, which at one point was pushing 5,000, could be closer to 3,000 within a few years.
According to enrollment projections released as part of the Mansfield Public School's preliminary fiscal year 2019 budget, there could be 3,335 students in the school system by the 2021-22 school year. Currently, there are 3,853 students attending classes in Mansfield.
The projection continues the downward trend for enrollment in Mansfield. During the 2009-10 school year, 4,923 students roamed the halls of Mansfield schools and the total has gone down every year since. This September, the town expects to have 3,749 students, a 2.7 percent decrease from this year.

Through 2021-22, the school district expects to see yearly enrollment decreases between 2.7 and 4.3 percent.
