Mansfield School Enrollment Remains on Decline

Compared to 2012,13, nearly 1,000 fewer students could be roaming the halls of the Mansfield schools in 2020.

MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield’s public school population could be about 21.5 percent smaller than it was only a few years ago.

According to enrollment projections released as part of the Mansfield Public School’s preliminary fiscal year 2018 budget, there could be 3,531 students in the school system by the 2020-21 school year. Currently, there are 3,954 students attending class in Mansfield.

The projection continues the downward trend for enrollment in Mansfield. During the 2012-13 school year, 4,499 students roamed the halls of Mansfield schools and the total has gone down every year since. This September, the town expects to have 3,833 students, a 3.1 percent decrease from this year.

Through 2020-21, the school district expects to see yearly enrollment decreases between 2.3 and 3.1 percent.
