Mansfield Track Sweep Franklin in Blowout Win
In the first meet of the season, the Hornets easily topped the Panthers in both the boys' and girls' meets.
As far as season openers go, a team couldn’t ask for a better performance than Mansfield’s first meet of the year against Franklin. Winning all but six events in the boys’ and girls’ meet combined, the Hornets swept the Panthers, taking the boys’ meet 107-29 and the girls’ meet 102-34.
The boys picked up nine state qualifiers en route to a 78 point win over the Panthers. Matt Baldasare had one of the strongest days for the Hornets, earning a pair of wins and qualifying times in the 200 (22.6) and 400 (51.0).
Conor Monks led a sweep of the boys’ mile, taking first with a time of 4:51.1. In second and third were Andrew Simons (4:57.3) and Jack Braidt (4:59.9).
The Hornets got similar results in the 2-mile, taking first and second place with a pair of qualifying times from Dan Romano (10:11) and Val Madonna-Lendvai (10:12.5)

Other athletes getting wins and punching their ticket to the Division 2 State meet include Curtis Boisvert in the 100 (11.2), Miguel Peres in the 110 hurdles (16.3), Oliver Erickson in the shot put (44’1”) and the 4x100 relay team (45.7)
On the girls’ side, the Hornets earned eight qualifiers from seven athletes in an just as impressive blowout of the Panthers.
Kelsey Ferreira earned three wins in the 110 hurdles (16.1), the long jump (15'0 1/2") and the triple jump (34’1”) while Sami Carey won the mile (5:35) after taking the lead with 600 meters to go.

Also in the sprints, Julia Jones took the 400 hurdles (69.4) and Lauren Waters won the 100 (13.1).
