MHS Entrepreneurs Make Donation To Mansfield Animal Shelter

Students ran a successful small business to raise money for the animals by selling Mansfield winter hats during the fall trimester.

Mansfield High School’s Entrepreneurship students successfully ran a small business selling Mansfield winter hats during the fall trimester. Students presented their business proposals to each other and decided as a group to pursue the winter hats project. They worked together to market the business and increase sales, and sold out of hats after just a couple weeks of sales! After analyzing their finances, they determined that $300 would be donated to the Mansfield Animal Shelter. In addition, students added a new component to their project this trimester. They made two microloans to aspiring entrepreneurs in the Philippines through the website Kiva.org. Kiva allows people to lend money to low-income and underserved entrepreneurs in eighty-two countries around the world.

Since the inception of this “small business” project in Mrs. Prester’s Entrepreneurship classes, students have donated just over $5,500 to local charities and organizations, while also funding future trimesters of Entrepreneurship students to complete the same project. The project was born from a grant awarded by the Mansfield Education Foundation to increase classroom innovation and authentic learning experiences
