MIAA Basketball Tournament: Mansfield Teams Earn High Seeds

MANSFIELD, MA - The Mansfield Hornets are set to make a run at the basketball state title as the 2016 MIAA Division 1 South pairings have just been announced.

Finishing the regular season with a record of 18-4 and the Kelley-Rex Division crown, the boys’ team will play No. 13 New Bedford at Mansfield High School on March 2 at 6:30 p.m. The winner will move on to the quarterfinal round to face either No. 5 Marshfield or No. 12 Brockton.

Like the boys, the girls team finished the regular season at the top of the Kelley-Rex Division. With an 18-2 record, the team was awarded the No. 6 seed. The team’s first tournament game will be a first round showdown against No. 11 Brockton on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. No. 3 Newton South awaits the winner in the quarterfinals.

The winner of the Division 1 South tournament will play the winner of the North bracket for a shot at the state championship.
