New Parking Restrictions Coming to Mansfield School Area

The selectmen voted to create a drop-off only period and 2-hour parking during the day.

MANSFIELD, MA — New parking limitations are coming to the Mansfield school area in an effort to crack down on people who park on the street all day.

Wednesday night, the Mansfield Board of Selectmen voted 4-0 to turn East Street into a drop off only area from 7 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and limit street parking to 2 hours between 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on school days. Selectman George Dentino was not present for the vote.

Town Manager Bill Ross said the major issue was students who were using the street spots for all-day parking. The original proposal saw the dropoff only period starting at 8 a.m. but due to the time that school starts, the board added an hour.

“The whole purpose is for it to be a safe route for parents to swing in and drop kids off. It kinda defeats the purpose if those spaces are taken,” Selectman Michael Trowbridge said.

Street signs with the parking limitations will be installed in the area and anyone found in violation of the parking rules could receive a ticket.
