New Spiritual Leader Joins Congregation Agudas Achim
Congregation Agudas Achim, Attleboro, Massachusetts, is pleased to announce that Leora Abelson has joined the congregation as its new spiritual leader. Rav (Teacher) Leora is currently a rabbinic student at Hebrew College and expects to be ordained in June 2017. A 6-member congregant committee began the rabbinic search process in November 2015, which culminated with Rav Leora’s hiring in April 2016.
In her introduction letter to congregants, Rav Leora expressed her excitement about leading a congregation where she feels “strongly aligned with the values and vision of the community.”

As part of her training, Rav Leora served as a rabbinic intern at Temple Reyim in Newton, MA, where she developed and led High Holiday family services and programming for teenagers. In addition, she led services for the entire community, offered teachings, and supported the development of the temple’s social action committee. Rav Leora has served as the High Holiday service leader at Congregations Ahavat Shalom and Beth El in Traverse City, MI, and at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. She also served as a chaplaincy intern at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Hebrew SeniorLife in Boston.
Rav Leora lives in Boston and will be leading Congregation Agudas Achim on a part-time basis while she finishes her studies.

Congregation Agudas Achim is affiliated with the Reconstructionist movement and serves the Greater Attleboro and Northern Rhode Island area. For more than 100 years, Congregation Agudas Achim has been the center of Jewish life in the area. Reconstructionist Judaism is a progressive, contemporary approach to Jewish life that integrates a deep respect for traditional Judaism with the insights and ideas of contemporary social, intellectual, and spiritual life.
