Mansfield Teen on Bike Fatally Struck by School Bus
A 13-year-old middle school student Shane Farrell has died after being hit by a school bus on East Street.

The Mansfield community is in mourning after a fatal accident involving a 13-year-old boy.
According to Mansfield police, the boy was riding his bicycle near the bike path on East Street at 2 p.m. when he was struck by a bus. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boy has been identified as Shane Farrell. In a statement to WPRI, the family said:

“We are all in a state of profound shock and disbelief at this time. We have suffered a great loss and are doing our best to get through it with the love and support of our friends, family and church. Shane was a remarkable young man who touched the lives of many people. His loss has shaken us deeply and we will need time and space to get through this . We respectfully ask for privacy while we grieve the loss of Shane. Our hearts are sad but we take comfort in the wonderful memories we have with him and knowing that he is now with the Lord. Thank you for respecting our wishes and giving us privacy that this difficult time.”
One witness told Julie Loncich of WBZ that the boy was struck by the school bus while riding his bike on the sidewalk.

The children on the bus were taken to Qualters Middle School and Mansfield High School where grief counsellors were made available to await their parents arrival.
Grief counsellors will be made available to all students by the Mansfield School Department.
The incident is under investigation by the Mansfield Police Department, District Attorney’s Office and the State Police Reconstruction Team.
