Penn. and NY Men Charged With Trying to Open Fake Cell Phone Accounts in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, MA — Two people face charges after allegedly trying to fraudulently open cell phone accounts in Mansfield, police said.
Francis Mejia, 19, of Scranton, Pennsylvania and Wally Mateo, 19, of New York City, New York, were arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with attempting to commit a crime, conspiracy, and identity fraud, according to the Mansfield Police Log.
At 11:40 a.m., police received a report of a man attempting to open two mobile accounts at Best Buy at Mansfield Crossing. Another man who appeared to be a lookout and circled the parking lot in a Jeep was reported.

At 12:13 p.m., another person attempting to open a face account was reported. Police responded and arrested Mateo and Mejua, but officers were unable to find the alleged lookout.
Officers Christopher Baker, Thomas Connor, and Derek McCune and Detectives Nicole Boldrighini and David Kerr were involved in the arrest.
