Propane Fire Causes Burns on Woman, Destruction of Camper

Mansfield Fire and Police responded to the scene Wednesday afternoon.

One woman was injured on Wednesday after a propane accident caused a fire that destroyed her camper at the Canoe River Campground.

Mansfield Fire and Police responded to the fire, which sent the woman to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of burn injuries according to Mansfield Police.

The fire was started after a propane tank accidently fell, knocking off the valve and rolling under the camper where the heat and other utilities were located according to the Sun Chronicle.

The ignition of the 100-pound propane tank caused a flash fire but no explosion.

Fire officials said the flames were shooting out of the tank by the time of their arrival.

Public safety officials responded to the call around 1:30 p.m. with Mill Street being shut down until 3:05 p.m.
