Racist Graffiti Found At Qualters Middle School
More was discovered after the administration spoke with students about the dangers of hate speech.

MANSFIELD, MA — Qualters Middle School is taking action following the discovery of "highly inappropriate graffiti" inside some of the school's bathroom.
In an email to parents, Principal Suzanne Ryan confirmed that the graffiti was found towards the end of Friday. Custodians were able to remove the graffiti over the weekend, but repainting forced some bathrooms to be closed Monday morning.
Following the discovery, the administration went to every classroom to condemn what was found and to remind students about the effects of committing a hate crime.

"We talked about how the act of vandalism is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our school community. We also talked about the fact that there is no place for hate or racism at QMS," Ryan wrote.
Unforturnently, more vandalism was found after the administration visited the classrooms. The school resource officer is investigating the incident.

"We know the vast majority of our students do the right thing every day, and we are calling on those students to report anything they may know about these incidents to a trusted adult. We would also ask all parents/guardians to continue having conversations at home to help students understand the gravity of these acts," Ryan wrote.
The incident is the latest for the school, which brought in the Anti-Defamation League following a similar situation last year. The group is working with the Mansfield Public Schools for the next two years to provide students and staff with tools and resources to promote an inclusive learning environment where individual differences are respected and valued.
