Rock-Tenn Company Plant on Maple Street to Shut Down

91 workers will be laid off by the end of May.

About 90 people will be laid off as part of the closure Rock-Tenn Company's paper manufacturing plant on Maple Street according to the Sun Chronicle.

The plant, which Rock-Tenn acquired in it's 2011 purchase of purchased Smurfit-Stone, plans to lay off the plant's employees by the end of the month with some workers already dismissed.

While the company did not give a specific reason for the closing, they did say that they do conduct regular reviews and make decisions based on cost inputs, transportation, and the cost of doing business in a town.

The town hopes to become more business friendly on Tuesday when several zoning articles concerning the Cabot Business Park are to be voted on at the May 7 annual town meeting.
