Selectmen Say No to Purchasing Willowdale Golf Course

The golf course is expected to become a 23-lot subdivision.

It appears that the days of hitting golf balls at Willowdale Golf Course are numbered after the selectmen declined a petition for the town to buy the property on Wednesday.

18 members of the golf course’s Monday night league signed the petition, asking the town to buy the golf course and prevent it from being redeveloped into a subdivision according to the Sun Chronicle.

In August, the planning board approved a preliminary plan for a 23-lot subdivision by Walsh Brothers Building of Walpole.

According to Town Manager William Ross, the town simply does not have the financial resources to acquire the nine-hole course.

Selectman Olivier Kozlowski suggested that the group could form a non-profit and attempt to purchase the golf course on their own but would have to talk to Wash Brothers Building since they have purchase agreement with the golf course.
