Solar Farm Project Landfill May Return

The selectmen discussed the possibility Wednesday.

MANSFIELD, MA - The Mansfield schools could receive their power from a nearby solar farm.

Selectmen Chairman George Dentino said Wednesday he'd like to see an effort by the town to construct a 1.5-megawatt solar farm at the East Street landfill to power the Mansfield Public Schools, according to the Sun Chronicle. Like the landfill, the schools are on East Street.

Town Manager Bill Ross said there was a plan to generate solar power from the landfill, but changes in tax credits ended the project. The extension of federal incentives could change that.

Ross added that 1.5 megawatts would be more than enough power needed by the schools.
