Mike Berry Announces Intent to Block Lawmakers from Using Offices for Private Gain

WALPOLE – July 11, 2017 – Candidate for Bristol & Norfolk State Senator Mike Berry is taking Beacon Hill to task for falling short following recent ethics reform in state government. The "Task Force on Integrity in State and Local Government" recently released a draft report of its findings, or lack thereof, recommending greater authority for the state Ethics Commission while failing to identify a path forward.

"The Massachusetts Legislature has once again shown that it is incapable of enacting serious ethics reform," Berry stated. "As my first piece of legislation, I will seek to enact a strict prohibition against legislators receiving any income from a private entity or organization that has business before a state, county or municipal agency."

Just in the past two years, one member of the House of Representatives and one member of the State Senate have been the subject of investigative reporting by the Boston Globe for apparent conflicts of interest and for allegedly leveraging their elective offices for private gain. Both individuals have since resigned.
A proven veteran of state and local government, Berry understands the role of a State Senator and is already committed to serving the nine communities of the Bristol & Norfolk Senate District on a full-time basis.
"The citizens of the Bristol & Norfolk District deserve a full-time Senator that will be free from conflict and whose only clients are those who elect him,” concluded Berry.

Michael Berry is a former local official from the Town of Walpole and is seeking the Republican nomination for the Bristol & Norfolk State Senate election. The Committee to Elect Mike Berry encourages voters to learn more about his candidacy by visiting his website at www.Berry4Senate.com or following him on Facebook ahead of the Republican primary election on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
