Crash on Rt. 495 Sends State Trooper to RI Hospital

On Thursday evening, a state police cruiser was struck on Route 495 near Exit 12.

At 7:45 p.m. ThursdayΒ evening, a state trooper cruiser was struck by a van near Exit 12 on Route 495 North according to the Massachusetts State Police.

While on Route 495 northbound near Route 140Β assisting another officer investigating an earlier motor vehicle crash, a trooper was hit by a van while in his cruiser.

The trooper was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. The injuries from the accident are not believed to be serious.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the state police.Β There has been no determination on possible charges against the operator of the vehicle that crashed into the cruiser.

The accident caused traffic in the area to slow down and the closure of two lanes according to Mansfield fire.Β
