Taunton Woman Charged with Driving into 2 Poles While Drunk

MANSFIELD, MA - A Taunton woman damaged two telephone poles while drunk early Friday morning, police said.
Christine Cummings, 55, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, causing bodily harm while operating under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation, according to the Mansfield Police Department.

At 4:21 a.m., police received multiple calls reporting a car crash involving two telephone poles in the area of South Main Street and Wilson Place. Responding officers found a heavily damaged Honda CRV operated by Cummings, police said.
Police determined that the vehicle was traveling north on South Main Street when it went off the road, made contact with two telephone poles, and came to a rest on the front lawn of 76 South Main St. Both poles were broken in the process.

Mansfield fire transported a passenger in the car to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Cummings was taken into custody.
Mansfield Electric had power restored within two hours, but temporary morning outages are still possible while electric crews continue to work in the area, police said.
