Two Arrested in Mansfield After Use of SWAT Team Arraigned

A pair that was arrested after police needed the use of a SWAT team was arraigned in Attleboro District Court Monday.
Joseph Baptista, 25, of Taunton, and Lauren Emery, 21, of Abington, arraigned on a number of charges including malicious destruction of property, misleading a police officer, shoplifting, and misuse of a 911 telephone number according to the Sun Chronicle.
On Friday, police responded to a report of shoplifters at Stop & Shop on Chauncy Street. Officers were able to track the two suspects to the Red Roof Inn but were unable to gain entry to their hotel room.

While on the scene, Mansfield police received a 911 from a female who stated that she was in an apartment on Church Street with her boyfriend who was holding a handgun. Police determined the report to be false after finding no one in the apartment and tracing the cell phone call to the hotel.
A SWAT team was needed to gain entry into the room and arrest the two.

According to police, Emery threatened to overdose prior the entry of officers and the SWAT team.
Both Baptista and Emery are due back in court on July 15.
