UPDATE: Two Dead in Wrong Way Crash on I-495 South in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, MA — Two people are dead following a crash that took place on Interstate 495 South during the early morning hours.

At about 2 a.m., a serious crash was reported near exit 13 of the highway, near the Mansfield-Foxborough town line. According to a preliminary investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, a Nissan Sentra operated by a 24-year-old woman from Middleboro driving the wrong way on the southbound side struck a Chevrolet Cruze operated by a 27-year-old man from Taunton. The Cruze was in the middle lane at the time of the head-on crash, police said.

There were no other occupants in either car. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the victims are being held pending family notification.

The crash is under investigation.
