Victim in Mansfield 2-Alarm Fire Dies

MANSFIELD, MA — A woman who was taken to the hospital following last week's 2-alarm fire has died.

Gabriele E. Foley, 61, passed away Monday, following a battle with a long-term illness and the March 8 fire, according to her obituary.

Just after 4:05 p.m., Mansfield fire received a report of a fire at an apartment complex just off of Route 106. Upon arrival, firefighters found a blaze on the first floor of the building.

Foley was unable to escape the building because it was overcome by smoke and fire. Firefighters were able to rescue her and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by MedFlight with life-threatening injuries.

North Attleboro, Plainville, Norton, Foxborough, Attleboro, Walpole and Easton provided mutual aid.

Investigators have cited improperly discarded smoking materials as the cause of the fire.

Foley is survived by her father, Gerald D. Fox, her brother, Anthony Fox, her sister, Christine Fox, her daughters, Crystal Black, Jennifer Foley and the late Colette Foley, her son Eric Foley, and multiple grandchildren.

Arraignments will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any burn unit at a hospital.
