Visions for Vacancies: Copeland Drive

Drive around Mansfield and you'll notice far too many empty storefronts, buildings and lots.

In this week's "Visions for Vacancies," we're looking a lot located across the street from Wendy's on Copeland Drive.

The 2.75 acre lot is zoned for commercial and retail use but has yet to find someone interested in leasing the property.

At the 2013 town meeting, there was an article that proposed adjusting the zoning for the street. If approved, the new zoning would have adjusted the floor area ratio allowed from 0.25 to 0.60 to encourage more two floor buildings and businesses on the road near the intersection of Routes 106 and 140. 

The vote was initially two votes short of the two-thirds super-majority needed to pass the article. In the recount, the number of votes in the affirmative went up but the number of votes against the article also increased, defeating the zoning change.
